CONCH REPUBLIC
ENTER AT YOUR
OWN RISK!!
Where were you April 23, 1982?
Where else in the USA, other than the U.S. Government, can you apply for a Citizen Passport, or Diplomat's Passport? Both are approved by an Office of the Secretary General!
ANSWER: The Conch Republic, otherwise known as The Florida Keys!
The Conch Republic is a resultant, rather than a discovery, in my mind. A proud group of people, who told the Government, "you've gone too far!". Does that sound familiar or what!!!
You may see parallels in your own life where you've said "you've gone too far!", but HERE they did something about it!
It was April 23, 1982, Florida City, just north of the first bridge onto the Florida Keys. A blockade, yes a blockade , was set up on Highway US 1, specifically at "Skeeter's Last Chance Saloon". The United States Border Patrol set this blockade up to block ALL traffic from coming onto the mainland of Florida. Didn't matter if you were a U.S. Citizen or not, you're not coming in until we search your car for narcotics and illegal immigrants! Residents of the Keys were essentially "patted-down" in their own Country!
The Mayor of Key West went to a Federal Judge in Miami to protest the blockade, to no avail. Immediately, after the hearing, he went outside and declared they were "...seceding from the Union!".
The new Conch Republic, basically all of Monroe County, stretches from just south of "Skeeter's" all the way down to Key West, the County Seat for all the Keys.
To make it official, the Monroe County Government Commission voted to declare themselves independent and now known as the Conch Republic. Immediately after, they celebrated their "proclamation of Secession"" at Clinton Square, in front of the old customs building, by breaking a loaf of Cuban bread over the head of a person dressed in a uniform looking like the U.S. Navy. Promply right after that, the Mayor surrendered to the Union, demanded 1 Billion dollars in War Relief and Foreign Aid. Later, by an act of Congress, residents hold dual citizen ship. IT CONTINUES ON TODAY!
Well this is a TRUE STORY!! You can read the whole story by going to The Conch Republic.

Some of the more common references to The Conch Republic include;
"WE seceded where other's failed"
"Raise Taxes, No! When we need money we just throw a party!"
Quote from a meeting with the Permanent Secretary to the Foreign Minister of the Government of the Bahama's, The Conch Republics Secretary General during a meeting stated:
"Madam, the only anti-gravity device yet invented on this planet is levity. The world is in sore need of levity, so it our function as the Conch Republic to be the Joker in the Deck...you may not always wish to play with us, Madam, but we must be there, or you’re not playing with a full deck!"
"Save Humans with Uncommon Sense!"
